Amidst the escalating tensions in the Middle East, Israeli media outlets are reporting what they refer to as "growing indications" that Iran's Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, may have been fatally wounded during the recent joint U.S. and Israeli airstrikes. The operation, which unfolded early Saturday across multiple Iranian cities, has plunged the region into a state of heightened uncertainty.
According to Channel 12's unnamed Israeli sources, there is speculation that Khamenei was either killed or at the very least injured in Saturday morning's strikes. These reports, while unconfirmed by Iranian officials, have gained traction due to Khamenei's absence from the public eye since the coordinated attacks. Israeli officials have previously indicated that the strikes inflicted "very significant harm" on Iran's senior leadership and military commanders, with initial strikes allegedly targeting areas in close proximity to Khamenei's offices in Tehran.
An Israeli official has stated that the outcomes of the strikes remain unclear, though earlier reports suggested that Khamenei might have been relocated from Tehran to a secure location either before or during the attack. Claims have also surfaced that President Donald Trump, in a strategic move, specifically targeted Iran's supreme leader in the first wave of missile strikes conducted jointly with Israel.
Visual evidence of the aftermath, including aerial images and video footage, has circulated online, depicting considerable damage to structures associated with Khamenei's compound in Tehran. Both his palace and the surrounding compound are reported to have been destroyed. In one video, voices can be heard reacting to explosions striking the compound, as smoke rises above the area believed to be Khamenei's official residence.
The strikes form part of what President Trump has described as "major combat operations" under the banner of "Operation Epic Fury." In a statement on Truth Social, President Trump issued a stern warning to Iranian military and security forces to "lay down your weapons" and accept "complete immunity," or "face certain death."
In retaliation, Iran launched missile strikes targeting various locations in Israel, including major cities such as Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Jerusalem. The Iranian military also declared U.S. bases and assets in the region as "legitimate targets," with reports indicating strikes on the U.S. Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain and various military bases across the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Explosions have also been reported in Dubai and Syria, with Jordan intercepting two ballistic missiles.
Amid these developments, Israeli sources have suggested that General Mohammad Pakpour, the head of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, may also have been killed. Ali Khamenei, 86, has been Iran's supreme leader since 1989, holding ultimate authority over the nation's military, judiciary, and executive branches. As of now, Iranian officials have not confirmed reports of his death, and no independent verification has been provided.
